THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE EUROPEAN CITY Seminar

The scientific and cultural focus of the conference cycle will be an exploration of the grand European tradition of the art of constructing and reconstructing cities. The historical forms of any city constitute our identity memory and as such are the lifeblood which feeds our ways of living, relating to one another, thinking about and planning for the future.
Put another way, the technical-scientific contribution of the seminar cycle will concern the study and prefiguration of the quality of urban places, open spaces, housing and its identity, the richness of the relationships of these places with the city and with the monumental emergences, whether old or new, and at the same time with the natural landscape. In this way, the contemporary European city can rediscover its formal continuity, just like the cities of old, and at the same time re-establish new relationships between its parts. The goal of the interventions is to explore the transformation of the forms of the European city from a multidisciplinary perspective through the presentation of urban architecture projects.

Two study seminars are planned and they are aimed at promoting contemporary architectural culture as a key to properly understanding and valorizing the present/future architectural project, and its expression of specific cultural, political and social questions. The program will include lectures from some of the leading lights of contemporary architecture who are supposed to submit one or more exemplary projects and/or theoretical research produced in the academic and/or professional fields.
