In an exemplary way, the Berlin Kulturforum mirrors the spatial image of the city of the previous century: the urban landscape. The relational conception found behind this image refers to the paradigm shift and the turn toward a natural-scientific – or more precisely physics-based – conception of space during the early 20th century. The notion of space-time is bound up with the image of the urban landscape. In this conceptualization, natural and urban spaces are conflated with one another; the opposition between urban and rural is suspended. The Kulturforum presents itself as an ‘open city.’ …
